Today i have photos of Lucena and this beautiful city is only 40 minutes drive from our villa Casa Pino Solo,Iznajar,Andalucia.Lucena is really easy to drive to on one quiet road only that is the A333 that changes to the A331 and has everything there that you could wish for.
It is the second largest city in the Province of Cordoba and the current population is around 46,000. People of Lucena are called Lucentinos and this area is located near the geographic center of Andalucia.
The major industry of Lucena is the manufacture of furniture and at the entrance to the city on the A45 motorway side is a building that looks like a giant chair, and the offices are located where the seat of the chair should be. This is owned by the furniture store beside the chair and is meant to be the biggest chair in the world.
As you enter Lucena it looks very industrial with major retail outlets and large furniture stores so to get the best out of this beautiful city you need to go straight into the old part of town. Here it is vibrant with amazing buildings and there are streets of cafe bars, tapas bars, squares and it has a real cosmopolitan atmosphere.
The old town hosts many exquisite churches reflecting its importance in the Subbetica of Baroque times and other wonderful buildings steeped in history. You can go to the local tourist board in the city to get information on everything that you may want to visit during your day at Lucena or of course you can get all your details before you arrive so you know exactly what you want to visit.
Nearby Lucena are the Amarga Lagoon Nature Reserve, Jarales Lagoon Nature Reserve, and Malpasillo Reservoir Nature Park so you can visit all of these during your days and it is always wise to get details of the times that the monumentary buildings are open incase any shut during the Spanish siesta times 2 till 5pm daily! If you do stay at Casa Pino Solo then we will happily give you as much information on any place you wish to visit and even though Lucena is not one of the main cities in Andalucia like Granada,Cordoba,Malaga and Seville it is a main city in Cordoba's region and well worth a visit! Thanks and speak soon Lisa x
